Drenthe is known as the walking province of the Netherlands. Around Westerbergen Holiday Park, you’ll discover a varied landscape with vast heathlands, dense forests and unique sand drifts. Whether you opt for a short walk or a longer hike, nature is literally at your feet here. Five marked
walking routes start from the park, easy to follow via coloured posts. Each colour represents a separate route with a walking time ranging from around 30 minutes to 3 hours. Ideal for a relaxing morning stroll or an active afternoon in the fresh air. The information board at the entrance provides a handy overview of all the routes, making it easy for you to choose your ideal walk.

Flarden Route in Holtingerveld
Start: various walks start from the Holtingerveld entrance gate near Havelte.
The route is 3 km long and takes about 1.5 hours.
Along the route, you can listen to ‘snippets’ from the area’s history via an app.
Dwingelderveld National Park
Start: various walking routes start from the Dwingelderveld Visitor Centre, near Ruinen.
Close to the visitor centre is a wooden observation tower, and you can visit the Ruinen Sheepfold. In addition, one of the most beautiful routes to walk is the Plankenpad.
