Ruinen Route – Giant Track
Ruinen is home to the Giant Track, a varied mountain bike route featuring wide paths and challenging single tracks. This makes for a surprisingly technical course. Along the way, you’ll cycle past heathland and through the countryside. The route starts off easily from Echten and is highly recommended for keen cyclists.
Starting point: Bovenveen car park, Ruinerweg 12, 7932PD Ruinen.

Zuidwolde West Route
Start this varied cycle route from the carpool point in Zuidwolde (Oosterweg, exit from the N48).
Covering a distance of around 20 km, you’ll cycle through a varied landscape full of nature. Expect single tracks through the woods, sandy paths, small bridges and quiet roads.

Appelscha Cycle Route
Start this cycle route from one of the car parks near Appelscha or Wateren. Covering a distance of approximately 16 km, you’ll cycle through the Drents-Friese Wold, a beautiful and varied nature reserve. Along the way, woodland, heathland, grasslands and open plains alternate, with wide paths and playful single tracks.
Starting points: Het Groote Veen car park (Bosweg) in Appelscha, Wateren car park, Aekingerzand car park (Kale Duinen)
Route length: approx. 16 km
Havelte West Route
Start this mountain bike route at the entrance to the Holtingerveld in Havelte. Covering a distance of approximately 15.5 km, you’ll cycle through a varied nature reserve featuring woods, heathland and open terrain. At the weekend, you can extend the route with an extra 6 km loop for an even greater challenge.

Route length: approx. 15.5 km
Havelte East Route
Start this mountain bike route at the entrance to the Holtingerveld in Havelte. During this route, you’ll cycle through a varied landscape featuring woods, heathland and open plains. The route is known for its well-maintained paths, challenging single tracks and beautiful natural surroundings.
Starting point: Holtingerveld entrance gate, Helomaweg 14, Havelte
Route length: approx. 25 km
Dwingeloo Route
Start this mountain bike route from one of the car parks at Spier, Lheebroek or Lhee. Covering a distance of approximately 22 km, you’ll cycle through the Dwingelderveld, a varied nature reserve featuring woodland and heathland. The route consists largely of unpaved paths and alternates between wide forest tracks and playful single tracks.
